Kids of all ages can enjoy a princess party. So, if you don’t know where to begin with your princess birthday party planning, keep reading!

Princess Party Themes
What’s great about a princess party theme for your little one’s birthday is that you have a wide selection of princesses to choose from. Of course, you can stick with a generic princess theme and have everyone dress up as their favorite princess, or you can select the birthday child’s favorite princess and theme the party around that.
Color Schemes for Disney Princesses
If you’re sticking with a generic princess theme, then many of the decorations, invitations, and activities are typically pink or purple. However, if you’re opting for a specific princess for your princess birthday party, then here are some color schemes for each of Disney’s 11 princesses (I’ve also included Elsa from Frozen on the list because although she’s technically a queen, she’ll likely be one of the most popular options. If you decide to go with a Frozen theme, I have an entire article of Frozen Birthday Party Ideas that you’ll definitely want to check out.)
- Ariel – green, red, and purple
- Aurora – pink, light blue, and yellow
- Belle – yellow, brown, and beige
- Cinderella – shades of blue and yellow
- Elsa – shades of blue (and pink and purple to incorporate Anna)
- Jasmine – dark blue, light blue, and yellow
- Merida – dark blue, orange, and brown
- Mulan – blue, green, and beige
- Pocahontas – shades of brown, beige, and black
- Rapunzel – shades of purple and yellow
- Snow White – blue, yellow, and red
- Tiana – shades of green and beige
This article will mainly focus on a generic princess birthday party theme, but I have also included princess-specific items if you’re choosing to go with a certain princess for your party.
Invites
Invites are the first thing you need to consider when planning a birthday party, as, after all, this will get your guests excited and inform them of all the necessary information they need to attend.
These Pink Princess Castle Invites, or these Group Disney Princess Invites, are fantastic options as you can fill in all the relevant information and mail/hand them out to your guests.
Alternatively, you can also purchase invitations online like this Disney Princess Invite Download and this Once Upon a Time Invite Download that you can download and email out to your guests to cut back on costs and time if you’re a bit behind schedule.

Supplies and Decorations
Decorations make a party, and with so many princess-themed decorations out there, you will be spoilt for choice.
Balloons
Balloon arches aren’t as challenging to put together as you’d think, but I highly suggest grabbing a balloon pump.
For a generic princess party, you’ll want a balloon arch with shades of pink, white, and gold like this 144 Piece Rose Gold Arch. If you want an extra princess touch, you can also add a Crown Topped Number Balloon, but this is entirely optional!
Garland
When it comes to a garland, you have a couple of options. First, you can choose this adorable Disney Princess Garland that incorporates all the Disney princesses, or you can choose a simple Pink Happy Birthday Garland that you can reuse for future birthday parties, regardless of the theme.
Cups, Plates, and Table Cloth
Whether serving a sit-down meal or having light snacks available for guests, you will need cups, plates, and a tablecloth. This Princess-Inspired Tablecloth, Paper Cup, Paper Plate, And Cutlery Set gives you everything you need in one package, so you don’t have to worry about finding items that match.
Backdrop
Finally, if you have extra space that you want to fill with a princess-themed decoration, then you can’t go wrong with a backdrop. You can place a backdrop, like this Happy Birthday Princess Castle Backdrop behind the food table, balloon arch, or wherever you have space to act as a fantastic photo opportunity.

Activities and Games
So, you’ve sorted out your invitations and gathered all your decorations. Now it’s time to think about the games and activities the little princesses will play while attending your party. Luckily, a vast selection of games and activities will keep your guests entertained for the entire party.
Find Cinderella’s Slipper
We all know how the story goes, the clock strikes midnight, Cinderella runs down the stairs to the royal palace, and in the process, loses her glass slipper.
A fun idea for this game is to have your guests color in their own princess slipper by downloading a Free Glass Slipper Coloring Page. Once they’ve finished with their masterpiece, hide the pages around the house or party venue and have your guests try to hunt out every slipper.
You could also make the game a little more challenging and have each guest try to find their own slipper or hand out a prize to the person who can find the most slippers!
Frozen Musical Statues
Musical statues is a classic party game, and you can easily adapt it to a princess theme by shouting freeze (in true Elsa fashion) to turn your guests into statues. The person who stands still during every round wins!
Musical Thrones
Another old but gold party game is musical chairs, but as you have princesses attending your party, it seems only fitting that you play musical thrones instead. So, decorate your chairs with this Free Crown Print Out that your guests have colored in, and battle it out to see who should be crowned the musical throne champion.
Crown Making Session
A crown-making session is not only a great party activity, but the crowns also double up as a party favor that your guests can take home once the party ends. So, purchase a Crown Making Kit and have your guests design their own crowns with the stickers provided, be sure to capture a photo before everyone heads home!

Kiss the Frog
We all know that you have to kiss a few frogs before you find your prince, so a Kiss the Frog game (inspired by pin the tail on the donkey) is a fantastic princess party-themed game that your little ones will find very amusing.
Princess Sing and Dance Along
If you have a speaker to hand, you can’t go wrong with blasting some Disney princess music and letting your guests scream “Let It Go” at the top of their lungs. Of course, you could also do a dance competition if your guests have too much energy to burn off.
Princess Makeover
All princesses love makeup, and if you have the all-clear from parents, why not give your guests a princess makeover with Kid Friendly Make Up? I guarantee that your guests will not stop talking about their princess makeover, even days after the party ends.

Princess Birthday Party Food Ideas
I love to serve finger foods at my children’s birthday parties because they’re simple, fun, and easy for the little ones to eat. So here are a few princess-themed party food ideas you could use for your princess birthday party.

Princess Wand Fruit Skewers
To create princess wand fruit skewers, all you’ll need is a watermelon, grapes, skewers, and a star cookie cutter. Of course, you could also use other fruit instead of grapes. However, I think the grapes give the wand a better effect.
- Place 4 to 5 small grapes (or onto your skewer).
- Cut out a star-shaped piece of watermelon using your star cookie cutter and place the star onto the top of the skewer.
- (Optional) Add a piece of curling ribbon to the bottom, and you’re done!
Pretzel Wands
Another wand-inspired finger food is pretzel wands that require only a few ingredients: pretzel sticks, white chocolate, and baking dust.
- First, melt your white chocolate in a microwave, stirring until smooth.
- Next, Coat halfway down your pretzel, stick with the white chocolate and let the chocolate harden.
- Then, dust the pretzel wands with baking dust once the chocolate has hardened.

Princess Sandwiches
You can’t go wrong with sandwiches for a birthday party as they’re inexpensive, and you can fill them with a range of different fillings to suit all your guest’s preferences. To turn the sandwiches into a princess-themed snack, cut them out with a Crown Cookie Cutter, and voila, sandwiches fit for a princess.
Pink Macarons
If you’re handy in the kitchen, this pink macaron recipe takes you through all the steps to create adorable pink macarons!

Princess Cupcakes
To create princess cupcakes, bake your favorite cupcake recipe, ice the top with pink or white frosting, and top it off with Princess Cupcake Toppers. Alternatively, you can also pop to your local grocery store, pick up some cupcakes, and add the toppers when you get home.

Princess Birthday Cake
Whether you’re baking the birthday cake yourself or enlisting the help of a bakery, there are numerous princess birthday cake ideas that you can choose from. I love to head to Pinterest for all my cake ideas, as there are some great inspirational pictures you can base your cake on.
