Lego Themed Birthday Party Ideas We Love

Credit: www.davisandscout.com

Virtually every little one is obsessed with Lego, and there’s a pretty good reason for it: it’s colorful, interactive, and allows children to tap into their creative sides. So, what better way to celebrate your kid’s birthday than a Lego-themed party?

Here, I’ll cover how to throw a Lego birthday party, including ideas for party supplies, activities, gifts, and food.

Why Choose A Lego Birthday Party Theme?

Lego adds a splash of color to any party and makes it easy to bring your kid’s wildest fantasies to life! Lego is also something every child can enjoy and participate in, meaning no party guest will feel left out.

When planning the party, choose Lego decorations that come in eye-catching hues, like red, yellow, and green, or decorations that match your child’s favorite colors. Try to avoid anything too subtle or bland. The brighter and bolder the palette, the more lively and fun the party will feel.

You can also include Lego decorations tailored to your kid’s other hobbies and interests. The Lego universe is expansive and has covered virtually every theme, from cowboys, princesses, and Marvel, to Minecraft and Pixar.

Lego Themed Invitations

You’ll first need to create invites for the party guests. The invites should be exciting, reveal the theme clearly, and include all the relevant information, like the date, time, address, and dress code (if applicable).

DIY Lego Invitations

Here are some tips on how to make some stunning Lego-themed invites!

  • Lego-themed font: The Lego font is iconic, and incorporating it into your invites is a surefire way to make kids (and parents) aware of the party theme. You can either replicate the Lego font by hand or download a Lego-themed font online. If you’re not a tech wiz, follow this guide for properly installing and downloading new fonts on your PC. Don’t worry; it’s pretty easy to do!
  • Add a Lego brick border: A Lego brick border will add a subtle pop of color while revealing the theme in all its glory! In addition, you can incorporate your child’s favorite Lego sets or characters into the invite.
  • Use creative envelopes: If you’re printing out your invites, why not make them extra special with unique and colorful envelopes? I recommend using envelopes with iconic Lego colors — red or yellow — and adding Lego-themed stickers.

Pre-Made Lego Invitations

If you’re not up for some DIY, many other options play around with the Lego idea.

  • Use Lego’s official printables: Lego has created its own birthday invitation printables. While they won’t have the “homemade touch,” they do look great, and it’ll save a lot of time and hassle. There are plenty of designs to choose from, with each invite featuring a distinct character.
  • One option for invitation is to purchase pre-made ones. These allow you to fill in the specific information for your party. One of the biggest pros to this type of invitation is you don’t have to worry about getting it printed from a store. Instead, you can order them, fill out the information, and mail them to your invitees.

Personalized Lego Invitations

With this type of invitation, you can order the templates and print them at home or at your local print store. I love how adorable they are, and you can personalize them to your liking, but printing them can be a hassle. If you have a nice printer at home and card stock paper, you can print them from your home, but if you do not have those accessible, you would need to find a local store (CVS, Walmart, Staples) or one online that will print and ship to your house.

I find this option takes the most time because you have to upload the document to the store’s online printing center and order them to be printed and either pick them up in the store or have them shipped to your house. This option I find to cost the most out of the three options.

Party Supplies and Decorations

Next up, it’s time to build the scene for your party! Check out my suggestions below:

Lego Themed Table

The table display will be the main attraction at the party, so it needs to stand out and show off the theme as much as possible.

First, add a colorful tablecloth. I recommend selecting a solid color such as red, blue, green, or yellow. However, you can also go for a Lego brick-themed cloth. If you go for the latter option, dial back the other table decorations; otherwise, the display may look too busy.

Kids will also love to eat off colorful plates. Like this Gift Boutique set, you can find plenty of Lego-inspired plates, and some even come with matching cups and napkins. You can use standard, white paper plates for a more budget-friendly Lego option, but decorate the edges with colorful tape or Lego stickers. You can also draw Lego character expressions on plastic cups.

Another great way to spruce up the table is to create square-shaped holders out of Lego blocks. Here’s a quick tutorial that’ll guide you through the DIY process. You can add straws, cutlery, chocolates, or whatever else you fancy inside them. The holders will also help keep the table organized.

As a final suggestion, why not build your child’s name, or a “happy birthday” message, out of Lego bricks? This is an insanely cute and creative way to make the table a little more personal.

Lego Themed Balloons

Balloons are a total classic and something every kid will appreciate. After all, they’re colorful, look magical, and can be incorporated into games!

Add balloons of all different colors, and draw Lego blocks onto them to maintain the party theme. Try to stick to 3 to 4 colors that complement each other. Adding too many colors will clash and draw attention away from the table’s display.

Other party balloon ideas:

  • Tie frilly ribbons around the balloons.
  • You can create a balloon arch with all the necessary supplies at the entryway.
  • Get letter-shaped balloons to spell your kid’s name or “happy birthday.” Position these balloons just above the party table.

Ensure you dispose of the balloons properly, as they can harm the environment. Consider using colorful paper pompoms or danglers for a more eco-friendly party decoration.

Lego Themed Party Banners

You can liven up the space even further with party banners! There are plenty of gorgeous Lego-themed options out there. Here are a few of my favorite designs:

  • Unique Industries party banner: An adorable, colorful design. Each letter has a Lego brick backdrop.
  • Aliza party banner: It still incorporates the Lego theme very clearly, but the letters are clearer and easier to read from a distance.
  • PapaKit party banner: A more subtle design. While it doesn’t incorporate Lego blocks, it’s incredibly colorful and will work well with the theme. It’s also eco-friendly.

Lego Birthday Party Activities and Game

Plenty of activities and games keep kids entertained; many of them can be adapted to fit the Lego theme. Check out my suggestions below! I’ve included a mix of indoor party games and outdoor activities.

Piñata

Piñata has always been a popular party game, and it’s no surprise why; it allows kids to release their excess energy and rewards them with a whole load of candy! You can buy a Lego-themed piñata, or if you feel up for some DIY, check out this craft tutorial.

Fill up the piñata with your kid’s favorite treats. You can also add these edible building block candies to keep to the theme. Put bunches in snack-size Ziploc bags, then add them to your piñata.

Pin the Head On the Lego Man

This game is essentially a spin-off of pin the tail on the donkey. However, it involves pinning the head on a Lego man figurine instead of an animal. Of course, kids must have their eyes covered for this, so invest in a high-quality blindfold that won’t allow them to peek through.

You can find pre-made designs online, but if you’re creative, you can buy large sheets of paper and draw the Lego figure (and heads) yourself.

Trim the paper, tape the Lego figure’s body to the wall, and then apply sticky tack on each Lego head.

How Many Lego Blocks Are In the Jar?

This simple, fun game is also easy on a budget. Find a large, old jar and fill it with Lego blocks. Make sure to count the number of pieces you put into the jar. Then, display it on the table and encourage the kids to guess the amount inside.

The child that guesses the correct number, or is closest to the correct number, wins!

Scavenger Hunt

Everyone loves a good scavenger hunt! Hide Lego blocks around the house and yard, and encourage kids to search for them. Give the partygoers a time limit — around 10 to 20 minutes — and reward whichever child has found the most Lego pieces once the time is up.

If you want to make the game extra fun, and the kids are old enough to understand the rules, you can give each Lego block a point value. For example, red blocks could be worth 5 points, while yellow blocks could be only 2 points. You would then tally up the points at the end of the game to determine the winner.

Lego Building Collaboration

This is a great game to spark a child’s imagination! Set up a table at the corner and add a large building board plate. Then, add boxes of different Lego pieces for kids to explore and choose from.

Encourage the kids to work together to make a Lego creation. You can even print off some lego building instructions to help inspire them.

Lego Themed Food and Drinks

There’s plenty of great party food, from fruit popsicles, cheeseburgers, and pizza to tacos and chicken nuggets. However, it’s always important to consider your child’s interests and whether or not the partygoers have any allergies or specific dietary needs.

Here are a few tips on how to spruce up whichever food you choose with the Lego theme in mind.

  • Add colored icing onto plain cupcakes. Then, arrange Smarties candies of the same color on top to replicate Lego blocks.
  • Use Lego molds when creating desserts like jello, gummies, and cookies.
  • Stick to colorful beverages, such as orange juice, Fanta, and Kool-Aid. Also, add Lego-shaped ice cubes into drinks.
  • Cut sandwiches into shapes that resemble Lego pieces. Slice the sandwiches into rectangles, then cut small circles out of the leftover bread. Adhere the circles on the sandwiches (use a spread like butter to make them stick).
  • Soft fruits like watermelon can also easily be carved into Lego blocks.

Choosing the Birthday Cake

A cake that’s a total showstopper, and takes into account your kid’s taste buds, is guaranteed to be a hit. Here are a few things to consider when choosing a birthday cake:

  • Keep to the Lego theme. There are dozens of Lego-inspired cake recipes, but you can also contact a professional baker to make you a personalized Lego design. Be warned, though: the latter can get pricey!
  • You could use a cake mold to create a lego person.
  • Another option is to purchase a store-bought cake or bake a simple cake and add a cake topper.
  • Stick to “comfort” flavors. Make sure to opt for cake flavors you know your kid will enjoy.
  • Opt for bright colors. Kids are drawn to eye-catching colors, so they’ll appreciate something bold and vibrant. But, of course, try to incorporate their favorite colors too.
  • Get the cake size right. Always ensure there’s enough cake for all the partygoers. Otherwise, a guest is bound to feel left out.
